Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

Kappa League is a subset of the Guide Right, our National Service Initiative. Under the chairmanship of Mel Davis, the Los Angeles Alumni Chapter’s Social Action Program took the form of training activity for young men of the Alain Leroy Locke High School. Called the Kappa Instructional Leadership League, it was designed to help young men grow, receive, and develop their leadership talents in every phase of human endeavor. It provided both challenging and rewarding experiences, which richly enhanced their lives. Membership was open to male students from the tenth through the twelfth grades. The fraternity sought to help these young men to achieve worthy goals for themselves and make constructive contributions to their community when leadership roles become the responsibility.

Shop with a Kappa
Shop with a Kappa, also known as SWaK is a Guide Right Program initiative started by the Las Vegas Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi, along with the Diamond Foundation Inc. Brother Rod O’Neal, a Vegas Alumni Chapter member and a former police officer saw an un-met need and modeled his vision of Shop with a Kappa to resemble a longer-standing program called Shop with a Cop. SWaK is now an annual event that occurs every December since 2012. Each year, members of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated accompany disadvantage children from their communities in spending $100.00 for Christmas gifts of their choosing from local Wal-Mart stores.
Brother O’Neil and the Las Vegas Alumni Chapter have now expanded Shop with a Kappa to over ten major metropolitan cities throughout the Western Province of Kappa Alpha Psi. Participating cities include:
- Anchorage, Alaska
- Salt Lake City/Ogden, Utah
- Irvine-Anaheim, California
- San Jose, California
- Las Vegas, Nevada
- Seattle, Washington
- Phoenix, Arizona
- Tacoma, Washington
The children selected to participate in Tacoma’s SWAK program have traditionally been selected from the Boys and Girls Club and United Way’s Center for Strong Families Program at Sound Outreach. Shop with a Kappa is a great tool to reach directly into communities identified by individual local chapters to touch those in need.
We invite you to learn more about our program and hope that you will be inspired to join us in service or donate to Tacoma SWAK at…

One of the most successful long-term ventures of Kappa Alpha Psi is the Guide Right Program. It is a tool to assist our youth in developing skills for a lifetime of achievement. The distinguished men of the Tacoma Alumni Chapter (TAC) of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc are here to embrace the community as a part of our family. Our bond with Tacoma, WA will be evidenced through mentoring,
public service and fellowship.
Guide Right is a program for the educational and occupational guidance of youth, primarily inspirational and informational in character. Its reach extends to high schools and colleges alike. In the latter, giving due attention to the needs of undergraduate Brothers.
Conceived in 1922 by Leon W. Stewart, and suggested at the twelfth Grand Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi, Guide Right became the fraternity’s national service program. Jesse Jerome Peters, later to become the eighth Grand Polemarch, was chairman of the committee, during the administration of W. Ellis Stewart as Grand Polemarch. That insured adoption of the Program as the Fraternity’s National Service Project.
We have made a commitment to this community and we invite you to engage us in conversation about ways to uplift our young people. Please feel free to contact us.
St. Jude Giving

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is internationally recognized for its pioneering work in finding cures and saving children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases. St. Jude is the first and only pediatric cancer center to be designated as a Comprehensive Cancer Center by the National Cancer Institute. Founded by late entertainer Danny Thomas and based in Memphis, Tenn., St. Jude freely shares its discoveries with scientific and medical communities around the world.
St. Jude is the only pediatric cancer research center where families never pay for treatment not covered by insurance. No child is ever denied treatment because of the family’s inability to pay. St. Jude is financially supported by ALSAC, its fundraising organization.
In 2005, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated named St. Jude as its national philanthropic partner. Kappa Alpha Psi began partnering with churches around the country in 2007 for the Sunday of Hope fundraiser, where churches collect a special offering during a designated regular Sunday worship service. All funds collected are donated to St. Jude.
The Tacoma Alumni Chapter (TAC) partners every March for the Sunday of Hope with an area church to fulfill this noble cause. In March we visited Ebenezer AME Church, led by our Kappa Brother, Pastor Theodore Payne III, where we worshiped and received their generous donations for children facing life threatening conditions. We also welcome donations online during the Sunday of Hope campaign. We are looking forward to continuing this important work in the years to come.
